Just showing off some screenies for my contest entry. Ice Snake is just a working title. Pretty user interface, sound effects, and a start menu to come later. :-) Soccer field and obstables.Starting to look more like a game... While the graphical display is not even started, I'd like for people to give the snake a test drive and let me know if they have any problems or suggestions to offer. You can download the demo from here: www.fire-on-the-suns.com/ice_snake.zipJust unzip the files into any directory and run the exec. It should start up immediately. The demo is supposed to cap around 60 FPS, I'd be interested in hear what frame rates and machines you're using. -- Thanks a bunch, TAZ. [updated links]

I'm glad you like it. I take it that the ATI Mobility radeon 7500 chip is not a powerful graphics CPU? -- TAZ

Great Game!Ive got also 50 fps but im on a old pc.The movement of the snake is very cool!!This is 100% a 1st 2nd or 3th place worth! .......1 thing ..I found a bug. when you crawl to a wall and try to get over it it is impossible unless you press shift and make a "S" movement like a real snake then you can get over the walls and fall down.. It is very beatifull to see how it falls (don know why)you all should try to make salto's and stuff. but its a GREAt snake game!

Well, it's not a bug as much as freefall suicide. ;D
Thanks for the kind words. I think the 'r' key still is available to reset the level. As a puzzle game, I may keep it, but assign a hefty penalty to the score.
The current game plan is to remove the walls and add lava/toxic waste/radioactive goo/etc. to the levels. This will consume the snake and take a life or drain the snake's vitality when it runs off the map.
I'm still working on more level ideas and game play for the next demo version. -- TAZ

cool! it would be great if you add som holes like tunnels were you can crawl in:) or som transport spots.and you could also drop somwhere in the level a secret object. And when you get that object youll have a special magnetic force so when your a litl close to thos balls .thell cum to you.Just som suggestions:P and srry for my bad english:) and you could also include new skins when the player finished som levels.Skins like/fire/camo/water/liqued metal/transparant.That kind of things would make your game complete.Im almost sure youll win a high spot.Keep up the goof work!

I'll definately keep up the goof work. :-)
I've got some ideas for skins, but I need for DBP to be kind to my UV mapping which it seems to clobber when I re-texture the models. -- TAZ

Yeah Goof lol:P
Ehm you could also just make more models if that would be 2 hard.Models with other skins and extra things like..spikes..or more speed.other shapes.(cobra's:P)And i think the maps should be in an other place.Like in an house.THat would be more interesting i think. So you can interact with object.like bottlel.i know that a real snake is also not in an house but for a game i think that would be more fun.But thats what i think:P

Yeah, it would be easy enought to have other models instead of trying to retexture them. It works and would save me the trouble of finding a way around the glitch. The contest allows for a lot of resources.
Some of the planned levels are going to be more fantays based, a billards tables, a mini-gold course, and a small soccer stadium as examples. -- TAZ

Just a bump, updated images and download link. www.fire-on-the-suns.com/ice_snake.zipAdded soccer balls, bitmap font, played with snake stability. Because my computer is fairly weak, this version runs in a small window. The final version should have some options for display size, time permitting. Otherwise it will be optimized for the contest machines. Arrow keys to move, control + arrows to roll, r for reset, l for line visualization, o for object visualization, f to toggle the FPS counter. -- TAZ

Hello I was curios about the Snake game problems, and I see it, it is very cool. I had not time to debugged yet, because the work on the new SDK. I think I have and idea what could be the problem, but I am still no sure.
I must say I played the snake and I had lots of fun with it, Very original idea. Are you the person that once made a post asking for a snake engine? Yes there was a Game Studio user asking for a snake engine and we just ignored it, if you are my apologies, I did not see that ideas coming.
I see that you talk about and entry to some event. Is this some kind of contest? I get the impression that there is a deadline and it is close, is this correct?
Again congratulation I am impressed with your ideas.

That was some other user asking about a snake engine. I built this one from scratch so I could learn more about Newton.
Currently, there is a small game design contest going on at the The Game Creators' web site. The deadline for the contest is the end of October. So, that only leaves me a handfull of weekends to bug hunt and polish this contest entry.
Thanks for trying out the WIP demo and leaving some feedback. -- TAZ
PS. I'm the one that left the post titled "Exploding Rope Trick" in the PhysicEngine forum. If you have any more suggestions on how to fix this glitch, I'd love to hear them.

I played through 3 levels, and after completing the 3rd it quit- it that still a problem with the TreeCollision loader?

Yeah, something is squirrely with that level.
169 ObjNum = 32000+Level 170 position object ObjNum, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0 171 rotate object ObjNum, 0.0, rotLevel#, 0.0 172 173 cube = NDB_NewtonCreateTreeCollision(ObjNum)
I also get on error on the rotate object command. Of course, there is a chance that it DBP up to its old tricks and reporting the wrong line number. I tried using the unoptimized version and it did not make a difference. The level that did not load is the one with that nasty collision triangle bug. I might re-edit that level and see if the bug goes away. -- TAZ
