Hi.
I am having problems with the tutorial right from the beginning.
Modelling is not my thing so I decided to use one of the models from the DarkMATTER pack but it doesn't seem to behave like the monkey in your tutorial.
Is there something different about the DarkMATTER models? Should I use a different one? Or is it just me being inept?

did you read the explanation about the bones? I seriously doubt the DarkMatter models have their bones oriented properly for Newton Ragdolls. you'll probably need to re-orient the bones with a program like Character FX. all bones need to be aligned with their local x-axis pointing in the direction of the bone.
Ragdolls are not simple, you most likely won't have success just copying the example code with another model... you really need to give it a thorough read, and make sure you understant how Newton wants a ragdoll to be setup.

It is CharacterFX that I am having the problem. I meant that the model doesn't appear like the monkey in the screenshots 'within' CharacterFX. ie. it is not wireframe and it is not at the right angle - probably easy fixes to someone that knows what they are doing but that someone isn't me!

I think we need more info. "Doesn't appear like the monkey" is not a lot to go on. Do you mean a missing skeleton? No textures? Throw me a bone. :-) -- TAZ

to make it a wireframe, you just select "unlit wireframe" from the dropdown menu in the viewport. there are other useful ways to view your model in that menu.
I think you probably imported a .3ds model into character FX, right? .3ds models import with the model aligned on the XZ plane (looks like it's lying down).
